Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce localized fat deposits in the body using fine cannulas and a vacuum system. It is not a weight-loss method; rather, it is a body contouring procedure designed to shape the body and improve proportions. It can be performed on areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, arms, and under the chin.
Who is it suitable for?
- Individuals who are bothered by localized fat accumulation
- Patients who are close to their ideal weight but need contouring
- People with good skin elasticity
- Those with stable overall health
- Non-smokers or individuals who can quit smoking before the operation
- Those with realistic expectations

Most Frequently Asked Questions
How is the surgery performed?
Liposuction is performed by creating small incisions in the targeted areas, breaking down the fat tissue with fine cannulas, and removing it with the help of suction. A tumescent solution is used during the procedure; this fluid reduces bleeding and helps remove fat more safely and in a controlled manner. When necessary, the procedure can be supported with technologies such as laser or VASER.
How long does the surgery take?
It lasts between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fat to be removed. The duration may be longer when combined with other procedures.
Is the surgery painful?
Mild to moderate pain and tenderness may occur after the surgery, and these can be managed with pain medications. During the first few days, pressure, tightness, and sensitivity are considered normal.
How long do the results last?
The removed fat cells are permanently eliminated; therefore, the results are long-lasting and permanent. However, poor diet, weight gain, and lifestyle changes may cause the remaining fat cells to enlarge.
Will I have visible scars?
Liposuction incisions are typically very small entry points measuring 2–3 mm. With proper care, the scars fade over time and become barely noticeable in most patients. Skin characteristics and the healing process may vary from person to person.
What are the risks?
Infection
Swelling, bruising, and temporary changes in sensation
Irregular contour or asymmetry
Fluid accumulation (seroma)
Bleeding
Rarely, fat embolism (very low risk)
Anesthesia-related risks
Proper patient selection and an experienced surgeon minimize these risks.

How long should I stay in Istanbul for recovery?
It is generally recommended to stay in Istanbul for 5–7 days after liposuction. This period is ideal for completing your follow-up appointments and monitoring the early healing process. For large-area liposuction, the stay may extend to 7–10 days.
Is it safe to travel by plane after the procedure?
Generally, it is safe to travel by plane 5–7 days after the procedure, as long as you are examined by your doctor and no complications are present. Earlier flights are not recommended, as they can increase the risks of swelling and blood clot formation.
What will my post-operative care be like when I return home?
In the early post-operative period, all follow-ups are performed directly by our surgeon, and patients are allowed to return to their home country once they no longer require dressings. In the following weeks, additional check-ups are conducted via video calls. Before leaving Istanbul, patients receive detailed instructions, and all necessary care videos are shared with them.
