Earpinning or Otoplasty
Prominent ear correction (otoplasty) is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the outward and prominent appearance of the ears. The goal is to correct the angle between the ears and the head, resulting in a more natural, balanced, and aesthetically pleasing look. In most cases, it provides a permanent solution in a single session.
Who is it suitable for?
- Adults whose ears noticeably protrude from the head
- Children over the age of 5 (as cartilage development is complete)
- Individuals who are bothered by the shape of their ears
- Those with asymmetric ear structure
- People who avoid tying their hair up or experience self-confidence issues due to the appearance of their ears
- Individuals who have undergone otoplasty before and require revision
- Those whose general health condition is suitable for surgery

Most Frequently Asked Questions
How is the surgery performed?
Prominent ear surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia (sedation or general anesthesia may be used for children).
The surgeon makes a small incision behind the ear and:
Reshapes the ear cartilage,
Applies cartilage-weakening or folding techniques if needed,
Places special sutures that position the ear closer to the head.
Since the incision is located behind the ear, it is not visible from the outside. Once the procedure is completed, a special bandage and a protective headband are applied.
How long does the surgery take?
The surgery usually takes between 45 and 90 minutes.
If only one ear is being treated, the duration may be slightly shorter.
Is the surgery painful?
Mild discomfort and a feeling of tightness during the first few days are normal.
However, post-procedure pain is usually very minimal and can be easily managed with simple pain relievers prescribed by your doctor.
How long do the results last?
The results of prominent ear surgery are generally permanent.
Because the stitches are placed using special techniques, the ears do not return to their previous position. In rare cases, minor adjustments may be needed.
Will I have visible scars?
Since the incisions are placed behind the ear, within the natural fold, they are not visible from the outside.
Once healing is complete, most patients are left with fine, faint, and barely noticeable scars.
What are the risks?
Infection
Bleeding
Asymmetry
Suture opening
Rare cartilage hardening
Scarring
Need for revision
With precise planning and the correct surgical technique, these risks are minimized.

A total stay of approximately 5–7 days in Istanbul is generally sufficient for complete follow-up.
Is it safe to travel by plane after the procedure?
Yes.
It is generally safe to travel by plane within 2–3 days after prominent ear surgery.
Pressure changes do not negatively affect the ear. However, for long flights, it is recommended to keep your headband with you.
What will my post-operative care be like when I return home?
In the early post-operative period, all follow-ups are performed directly by our surgeon, and patients are allowed to return to their home country once they no longer require dressings.
