Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is a procedure in which excess fatty tissue, glandular (milk gland) tissue, and surplus skin are surgically removed from overly large breasts. Through this operation, the size of the breasts is reduced, their shape is restructured, and a more proportionate appearance is achieved in harmony with the body. It not only provides an aesthetic improvement but also helps alleviate physical complaints caused by excessively large breasts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain.
Who is it suitable for?
- Individuals whose breasts are disproportionately large for their body
- Those experiencing back, neck, or shoulder pain due to large breasts
- Grooves or indentation on the shoulders caused by bra straps
- Rashes, fungal infections, or unpleasant odor under the breasts
- Those who experience limited mobility in daily activities
- Individuals seeking a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing breast appearance
- Adults who aim for long-lasting breast shape and relief
- Those whose overall health condition is suitable for surgery

Most Frequently Asked Questions
How is the surgery performed?
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon removes excess skin, fat, and tissue while preserving the nipple, reshapes the breast tissue, and repositions the nipple to a more aesthetic location. The technique used may vary depending on the patient’s breast structure (such as the inverted-T technique, vertical technique, etc.). At the end of the procedure, special dressings and a supportive bra are applied.
How long does the surgery take?
It typically takes between 2.5 and 4 hours. The duration may vary depending on the size of the breasts and the surgical technique to be used.
Is the surgery painful?
During the first few days, mild to moderate pain and a feeling of tightness may occur, but these are easily managed with the prescribed pain medications. The majority of patients report that the pain is much less than they expected.
How long do the results last?
The results of breast reduction surgery are generally permanent. However:
weight fluctuations,
pregnancy and breastfeeding,
age-related tissue changes
may affect the shape of the breasts in the long term. Despite these factors, most patients remain satisfied for many years with their smaller and more contoured breast appearance.
Will I have visible scars?
As with all surgical procedures, breast reduction leaves scars; however, these scars gradually fade and become less noticeable over time. The visibility of the scars is influenced by the surgical technique used, the type of sutures, skin characteristics, and regular use of scar-care creams. In most cases, the scars significantly fade within 6–12 months.
What are the risks?
Infection
Bleeding or hematoma
Wound separation (suture opening)
Temporary sensory changes
Dissatisfaction with scarring
Rarely, circulation problems in the nipple area
These risks are significantly reduced with an experienced surgeon and proper post-operative care.

How long should I stay in Istanbul for recovery?
For international patients, the ideal length of stay is between 7–10 days.
During this period:
follow-up examinations are performed,
dressings are changed,
and the early healing process is closely monitored.
Is it safe to travel by plane after the procedure?
It is generally safe to travel by plane 5–7 days after the surgery.
However, if long flights are planned, air travel is not recommended within the first week. To reduce the risk of blood clotting, leg exercises and adequate water intake are important.
What will my post-operative care be like when I return home?
In the early post-operative period, all follow-ups are performed directly by our surgeon, and patients are allowed to return to their home country once they no longer require dressings. In the following weeks, additional check-ups are conducted via video calls. Before leaving Istanbul, patients receive detailed instructions, and all necessary care videos are shared with them.
Will language be a barrier?
No. Our clinic provides English-speaking coordinators and interpreter services for international patients, ensuring smooth communication at every stage.
